What Are GH Secretagogues?
Growth hormone secretagogues are peptides that stimulate the body's own pituitary gland to produce and release growth hormone (GH). Unlike synthetic HGH which introduces exogenous growth hormone directly, secretagogues work with the body's natural feedback systems, maintaining physiological pulsatile release patterns. This is significant because the pulsatile nature of GH release is critical for its biological effects — constant GH levels (as with HGH injections) can lead to receptor desensitization.
GHRH Analogs: CJC-1295, Sermorelin, Tesamorelin
Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH) analogs stimulate the GHRH receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells. CJC-1295 (no DAC) — also called Modified GRF 1-29 — has a half-life of approximately 30 minutes, promoting natural pulsatile GH release. Sermorelin, the first 29 amino acids of GHRH, has extensive clinical data and is often used as a foundational GH secretagogue. Tesamorelin is FDA-approved specifically for reducing visceral adipose tissue and has the strongest clinical evidence for body composition changes.
GHRP Peptides: Ipamorelin
Growth Hormone Releasing Peptides (GHRPs) work through a different receptor — the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) — on the pituitary. Ipamorelin is the most selective GHRP, stimulating GH release without significantly increasing cortisol, prolactin, or appetite. This selectivity makes it the preferred GHRP for research protocols. Other GHRPs like GHRP-6 and GHRP-2 are more potent but less selective, often increasing appetite and cortisol.
The Ipamorelin + CJC-1295 Stack
Combining a GHRH analog (CJC-1295) with a GHRP (Ipamorelin) produces synergistic GH release that significantly exceeds either peptide alone. CJC-1295 amplifies the GH pulse, while Ipamorelin initiates it. Standard research protocol: 100mcg CJC-1295 + 200-300mcg Ipamorelin, administered subcutaneously 2-3 times daily (morning, post-workout, before bed). This combination is the most popular GH secretagogue stack in the research community.
Expected Research Outcomes
GH secretagogue research protocols typically show measurable effects within 2-4 weeks: improved sleep quality (particularly deep sleep), enhanced recovery from exercise, gradual improvements in body composition (reduced body fat, increased lean mass), and improved skin quality. Full effects develop over 3-6 months. Blood work typically shows IGF-1 levels increasing 30-60% from baseline, confirming pituitary activation.
